Different serotypes of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) induce variable expression of proinflammatory and procontractile genes in mouse myometrium. Dams were sacrificed at 6 hours after intrauterine injection, and tissue was harvested for real-time quantitative RT-PCR analysis of procontractile and inflammatory genes associated with labor onset, including cyclooxygenase 2 (Cox-2; A), Cx-43 (B), tumor necrosis factor-α Tnf-α (C), Il-1β (D), Il-6 (E), Il-8 (F), matrix metalloproteinase 3 (Mmp3; G), Mmp10 (H), and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS; I) mRNA. Data are presented relative to β-actin mRNA levels. n = 5 (AI). P < 0.05, ∗∗P < 0.01, and ∗∗∗P < 0.001, versus phosphate-buffered saline (PBS)–injected control dams; P < 0.05, ††P < 0.01, within LPS treatment group (one-way analysis of variance with Tukey's post hoc analysis).
