The plot highlights the dramatic increase of the rate on stiffer substrates, and also the highly non-monotonic variation with force. The inset shows that on very soft substrates the rate of rupture is very low and in fact decreases further with the force. Note that the rate always diverges at f˜c=3/2, which is the maximum force that the latent complex can stand.
