Authentic d-Ala residues (magenta) in LtnA peptides were introduced by MBP-NpnJA. Dha residues were also reduced by MBP-NpnJ_A in a variety of other peptides as indicated in green font. The full-length LanA peptides with the same modifications as produced by their native producer strains are termed mLanA for modified LanA, e.g., mLtnA1 and mLtnA2. The full-length dehydrated peptides with only dehydrations (no cyclizations) in their core peptide are termed dLanA for dehydrated LanA (i.e., dLctA, dPA1, and dPA2).
