Central hepatectomy–segment-orientated resection.¹⁴ Central segments labelled 4, 5, 8 ± 1 (caudate lobe) are the segments resected in a central hepatectomy (CH). The inflow pedicles to segment 4 (A and B) are ligated and divided along the umbilical fissure, the right anterior sectoral pedicle (C) is then divided. The parenchymal transection proceeds from the left side and then the right side until the two planes meet just anterior to the inferior vena cava (IVC). The right hepatic vein (D) is preserved.
