DYRK2-mediated apoptosis induction. Nuclear DYRK2 is ubiquitinated by MDM2 under normal conditions. Upon DNA damage, ATM phosphorylation stabilizes DYRK2 in the nucleus, and then DYRK2 phosphorylates p53 at Ser46. Phosphorylated p53 transactivates its target genes including areg. AREG interacts with the DDX5 complex and regulates precursor miR-15 processing. miR-15 attenuates bcl-2 mRNA translation, resulting in the acceleration of apoptosis induction.
