The bacterium was cultured at the indicated times and recovered from the broth culture (or the wash from ham slices) by centrifugation. RNA purification, cDNA synthesis, and subsequent qPCR were performed as described in Materials and Methods. Two independent cultures and two independent assays were performed, and a total of four pieces of data per sample were averaged. Standard errors are shown.
