Xenon is neuroprotective at concentrations of 30%, 50% and 75%. Xenon-treated animals (grey bars) received 75% xenon : 25% oxygen, 50% xenon, 25% oxygen, 25% nitrogen or 30% xenon, 25% oxygen, 45% nitrogen for 3 hours duration starting at 15 minutes after trauma. Control animals (white bar) received 75% nitrogen : 25% oxygen. Contusion volume was measured 24 hours after trauma.
