The PXP motif (red) is conserved between the Shaker and Kv1−Kv4 subunits. The Kv7.1 subunit displays a glycine (could confer flexibility) while the Kv5, Kv6, Kv8 and Kv9 (or KvS) subunits contain residues that would promote an alpha−helical configuration. The S6c segment used to make the chimeric substitution between Kv6.4 and Kv9.3 is highlighted in bold.
