Schematic of molecular self-assembly. Designer peptides with –RGDS terminal sequence. Main SL-repeat regions arrange antiparallel to each other and hydrogen bond into sheets. Polyvalent suramin allows for intra- and intermolecular hydrogen bonding and ionic interaction with terminal lysines. Stabilized short fibers’ terminal charges are screened, allowing fiber growth and polymerization into hydrogel networks.
