Analysis of double mutants of metE reveals that the loss in function by the deletion of adenine 153 (purple diamonds) can be partially restored by strengthening the pseudoknot (green triangles) or by repositioning of the terminal loop of P2, which forms the pseudoknot, through deletion of a base-pair in P2a (red squares). Quantification of the in vitro transcription assay of the wild type sequence (Δ16, blue circles) is shown for comparison.
