Representative dose distributions (coronal image, palate, and tongue surface) in a patient with malignant melanoma of the right nasal cavity are shown. The location of the acute radiation mucositis (ARM) approximated the high radiation dose area. ARM was classified as grade 2 according to version 4 of the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (CTCAE)* and as grade 3 (palate) and grade 0 (tongue) according to the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG) criteria.
