FasX negatively regulates the abundance of mRNAs encoding the fibronectin-binding proteins PrtF1 and PrtF2. Parental, fasX mutant, and complemented mutant strains of the serotype M28 GAS strain MGAS6180 were grown to mid-exponential phase, and RNA was isolated and used in quantitative RT-PCR analysis. Statistical significance was tested by t test with significant data points being highlighted by asterisks (P < 0.05 relative to the parental strain).
