Human fetal mesenchymal stem cells (hfMSCs) from 2 different donors, denoted as S27 and S127 were cultured in growth media on Cytodex 3 microcarriers (3D MCs) in a spinner flask or as monolayers on tissue culture plastic flasks for 7 days. Thereafter, cells on 3D MCs (3D MC-bound), or cells enzymatically harvested from MCs (3D MC-harv) were seeded onto a collagen I-coated plate and differentiated for 14 days.
