To experience the effect of knowledge on perception, the reader should look back at Fig. 1A after having viewed this template for some time. The perceptual experience of the two-tone image in Fig. 1A, Left, should have drastically changed from the initial viewing: rather than looking like meaningless patches, a coherent percept of the child and parts of the puzzle should now be experienced. The control image in Fig. 1A, Right, should still appear as meaningless patches.
