CD40 engagement induces human B cells to secrete active TGF-β and IL-10. sIgM+ sIgD+ CL-01 cells were cultured in the presence of control CD8-293 cells (white bars) or CD40L-293 cells (gray bars), and total and active (hatched section of bar) TGF-β (A) and IL-10 (B) accumulated in the culture fluids were measured by a functional bioassay and a specific ELISA, respectively, after 2, 5, or 8 days. Values are mean ± SD of four determinations.
