Phylogeny of ascomycete fungi based on concatenated Internal Transcribed Spacer 1 sequences (ITS1). Except for Neurospora crassa, all of these fungi are dimorphic. ITS sequences were downloaded from the NCBI database and exported to BioEdit 7.2.5 software (Hall 1999) to align and concatenate the sequences (see strain or isolate names and references in Table S1). A maximum-likelihood tree was constructed using Mega6 with 1000 bootstrap (Tamura et al. 2013). Bootstrap support is shown on each node. Sordariomycete, Eurotiomycete, Taphrinomycete, and Saccharomycete are classes. Pezizomycotina, Taphrinomycotina and Saccharomycotina are subdivisions of the ascomycetes.
