Effects of shikonin on the invasive capacity of glioma cells (A) Results of Transwell in vitro invasion assay for U87 cells. In vitro invasion assay was performed to investigate the changes of invasive capacity of U87 cells under the treatment of shikonin. U87 cells were treated with shikonin at 2.5, 5, and 7.5 μmol/L for 0–48 h; (B) Statistical analysis for U87 cells. Doses of 2.5 and 5 μmol/L significantly inhibited the invasive ability of U251 cells compared with control groups at 24 h. A dose of 5 μmol/L displayed even greater inhibition at 48 h; (C) Results of Transwell in vitro invasion assay for U251 cells. In vitro invasion assay was performed to investigate the changes of invasive capacity of U251 cells under the treatment of shikonin. U251 cells were treated with shikonin at 2.5, 5, and 7.5 μmol/L for 0–48 h; (D) Statistical analysis for U251 cells. * p < 0.05, ** p < 0.01 vs. control group; ## p < 0.01 vs. 2.5 μmol/L (n = 5). Bar stands for 50 μm. Original magnification of A,C: ×400.
