LKB1 may regulate cerebellar foliation and development by controlling the GCP proliferation via Shh signalling, which controls the G1 cyclins during cerebellar development. In our mutant mice, LKB1 deletion significantly increased the level of Shh signalling, which may increase cyclinD1. These changes resulted in an abnormal increase in GCP proliferation, which caused the cerebellar defects and extra lobules. AMPK likely acts as a mediator between LKB1 and Shh signalling in the LKB1Atoh1 CKO cerebellum.
