Increased glucose uptake and ethanol production rates by overexpression of HXT genes. CEN.PK2-1C cells overexpressing each HXT gene (HXT1 to HXT4 and HXT7) were grown in SC-Trp medium with 80 g/liter glucose, and glucose and ethanol levels in the medium were detected after 10 and 24 h of cultivation. Cells harboring empty pRS414GPD vector were used as a control.
