Pgp3 neutralizes the antichlamydial activity of the human cathelicidin LL-37. (A) LL-37 with (images c to e) or without (b) preincubation with various concentrations of Pgp3 were used to treat C. trachomatis serovar D organisms before the organisms were applied to HeLa cell monolayers. The same serovar D organisms treated without (a) or with Pgp3 alone (f) were used to infect the HeLa cell monolayers as controls. As described in the legend to Fig. 1A, the inclusions were counted and the infection rates were calculated from 3 independent experiments and are shown in the corresponding images. (B) In a parallel culture as described above, the samples were harvested for Western blot detection of chlamydial proteins as described in the legend to Fig. 1B. (C) In experiments parallel to those described for panel A, the cultures were harvested for quantitating live organisms from each and are shown along the y axis in log10 IFUs per well.
