MUC1 expression in human melanoma cells prevents anoikis and increases cell survival. MUC1-positive transfectants (ACA19+) show significantly less anoikis (a) and higher survival rate (b) than the MUC1-negative revertants (ACA19−) in cell response to 24 h culture under suspension when assessed by caspase-3/-7 activity.
