Conversion of DCA-C by membrane fractions containing PhcC and PhcD. DCA-C (100 μM) was incubated with membrane fractions containing PhcC (10 μg of protein/ml) or PhcD (100 μg of protein/ml). Portions of the reaction mixtures were collected at the start of incubation (incubation with PhcC) (A) and after 30 min of incubation with PhcC (B) and PhcD (C) and analyzed by HPLC. Negative-ion ESI-MS spectra of compounds I (D) and II (E), which were identified as DCA-CL and DCA-CC, are shown (F).
