(a) The vitreous humor of the mammalian eye mainly consists of collagen fibrils, as well as the GAGs HA and HS, both of which carry several negative charges. From fresh ovine eyes (b), the vitreous humor is carefully removed (c), and nanoparticles are injected into the vitreous (d).
