Data are mean (± sem) presses on the previously active lever. Rats were trained for alcohol SA, their lever pressing extinguished and were injected with vehicle (0) or one of the doses of varenicline (0.5 and 1 mg/kg) 15 min before reinstatement test sessions (1 h). At the beginning of the sessions animals received 1 delivery of alcohol solution accompanied by the cue (light and tone); subsequently, responding resulted in cue presentation at FR3. Vehicle and varenicline injections were given in counterbalanced order with 2–3 days of regular extinction sessions between each. N=10.
