Catecholamine/iron-dependent induction of ygiW-qseBC requires the periplasmic domain of QseC and the QseB response regulator. Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans 652 (WT), isogenic non-polar gene deletion strains lacking qseC (ΔqseC) or qseB (ΔqseB), or a strain expressing the QseC sensor without the periplasmic domain (qseCΔp; see Methods) each harboring plasmid pDJR29 were grown in chemically defined medium (CDM) broth alone or in CDM supplemented with both Ep and FeCl2 (Ep/Fe²⁺; 50 μm and 100 μm, respectively). β-galactosidase activity was determined after 24 h of growth. Significant differences (P < 0.05) are indicated by asterisks.
