Table 5.
Effects of Non-Caucasian race on the Real Time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) measurements of NOS3 and SLCO2A1 genes in three separate tissue sets of second trimester human ductus arteriosus. (n) The number of "Caucasian" and "Non-Caucasian" tissues examined at each gestation.

ΔCT represents the difference in cycle threshold (CT) between the expression of the housekeeping gene Malate dehydrogenase (MDH) and the gene of interest. Each unit of ΔCT represents a 2-fold change in a gene’s mRNA. The more negative the ΔCT, the fewer the number of starting copies of a gene (mRNA).
Δ-ΔCT represents the difference in ΔCT between Caucasian and Non-Caucasian infants. In each of the 3 sample sets, and at each of the gestational epochs, "Non-Caucasian" infants had fewer copies of NOS3 and SLCO2A1 mRNA than "Caucasian" infants.
