The embryos were obtained from an incross of (i) wild-type; (ii) mdm2+/− (either +2 or Δ5 allele); (iii) mdm2 Δ15/15; and (iv) mdm4−/− adult fish. The mdm2−/− embryos were distinguished from their wild-type and heterozygote siblings by visual observation and confirmed by subsequent genotyping.
