BMSC infusion reduces pulmonary microvascular permeability, which was analyzed using the Evans blue dye extravasation technique. Evans blue dye (30 mg/kg) was injected into the tail vein 30 min before sacrifice. Following the removal of extra dye by 15 min perfusion of pulmonary vasculature, the left lung was harvested. Evans blue dye in the lung was extracted and the absorption of the buffer containing the dye was measured at 620 nm and corrected for the presence of heme pigments (n=6). *P<0.05, vs. sham group; #P<0.05, vs. IRI + PBS group. BMSCs, bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells; IRI, ischemia-reperfusion injury; PBS, phosphate-buffered saline.
