Calculated and modeled surfactant adsorption onto VLPs at varying surfactant concentration at pH 7.4. The amount of adsorbed surfactant was calculated by converting the measured zeta potential to charge density with the Grahame equation and then converting the change in charge density to number of surfactant molecules. Error bars represent the standard error of three measurements at each condition. The apparent virus capsid charge can be controlled by adding charged surfactant. Both simple adsorption models interpret adequately the amount of surfactant binding to the model viruses.
