The primary specificity-determinant residues in RR468, DifD and EpsW are in bold and underlined whereas the secondary ones are in bold only. The identical specificity-determinant residues in DifD and EpsW are highlighted in red and the conserved or semi-conserved ones in green. The three CheY residues in red can be mutated to generate constitutively active proteins and their counterparts in EpsW (also in red) were selected for specific mutagenesis in this study.
