Stromal-derived follicular dendritic cells are important sites of prion accumulation and replication in the B cell follicles of secondary lymphoid tissues. Detection of high levels of abnormally folded, disease-specific prion protein (PrP, brown) in Peyer's patches, mesenteric lymph nodes (MLN), and spleen of a mouse infected with ME7 scrapie prions.
