Table 4.
HPV E7 protein expression in high risk HPV-positive and -negative benign breast and invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) and ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) breast cancer.
HPV DNA sequences (PCR) | HPV E7 positive (immunohistochemistry) | HPV E7 negative (immunohistochemistry) |
---|---|---|
Benign breast | ||
HPV positive n = 20 | 13 (65%) | 7 (35%) |
HPV negative n = 11 | 8 (73%) | 3 (27%) |
IDC and dcis breast cancer | ||
HPV positive n = 21 | 16 (76%) | 5 (24%) |
HPV negative n = 9 | 2 (22%) | 7 (78%) |
The prevalence of HPV E7-positive protein expression is similar in both HPV-positive and HPV-negative benign breast specimens.
The prevalence of HPV E7-positive protein expression is significantly higher in HPV DNA sequence positive as compared to HPV-negative breast cancer specimens (Pearson chi-square p = 0.007).
