Uronemella weave stalks into a veil. Uronemella organize into a front and produce veil at a constant rate. Panels (ab) show two images of the distribution of cells (blue dots) and veil (white material) within the chamber. The cells form a closed veil. Each panel is 1 cm across. (c) The intensity of light scattered from the veil increases as cells produce new material. The change in scattered light intensity (Δ intensity) is proportional to the integrated cell number. Thus, each cell produces veil material at a constant rate, consistent with figure 7.
