Recall performance. (A) Temporal contiguity and performance: average number of words recalled as a function of J₊. J₊ ranges between the fixed value of J₋ = 400 and 2500. The number of memories is P = 16. The number of memories is P = 16. (B) Noise and performance: the average number of words recalled is plotted at the vary of noise variance ξ. A small amount of noise helps the retrieval process triggering transitions from memory to memory. For high noise levels the retrieval mechanism is hindered.
