Western blot analysis of cathepsin-D in tissue supernatant fluids from normal and degenerative soleus muscles. The three forms of cathepsin-D, which are preprocathepsin-D, procathepsin-D, and cathepsin-D mature form (heavy chain), were detected in the CON and HULT rats (a). Preprocathepsin-D level decreased in the HULT group (b). Procathepsin-D level showed no significant difference between the CON and HULT groups (c). The total inactive form of cathepsin-D, which is the amount of preprocathepsin-D and procathepsin-D, decreased in the HULT group (d), and the active form of cathepsin-D increased drastically in the HULT group (e). The results represent the mean ± SD. *Significant difference between the CON and HULT groups (p < 0.05). †Significant difference between the CON and HULT groups (p < 0.001).
