Overexpression of different competence genes and their effect on transformation efficiency. Strains B. subtilis REG6 (P_mtlA-comK), REG3 (P_mtlA-comS), REG4 (P_mtlA-dprA), REG5 (P_mtlA-dprA-comS), REG7 (P_mtlA-comK-dprA), and REG19 (P_mtlA-comK-comS) were transformed with 100 ng pWAL275 dimers in LB with mannitol as described in Section Materials and Methods. Error bars represent standard deviation from the mean value between triple experiments.
