As baseline expression increased for each immune gene, resistance against S. marcescens increased for males (closed circles), but not for females (open circles). Immune gene expression is relative to actin5C and expression for all three genes is male-biased. Although female expression levels are low relative to the housekeeping gene (on average 2% of actin5C, making them appear close to zero), expression levels remain robust.
