Different types of tumor heterogeneity. Spatial heterogeneity refers to differences between distinct anatomical regions or individual cells within a tumor, while temporal heterogeneity illustrates changes in a tumor’s molecular profile over time. Intermetastatic heterogeneity arises from distinct subclonal populations in the primary tumor, and intrametastatic heterogeneity reflects the discordant molecular profiles of cells within individual metastases.
