Figure 9

The effect of proanthocyanidins on autophagy and apoptosis when autophagy was inhibited. After treatment with 5 mM 3-MA, the expression of Beclin1 was decreased compared with that in control cells. After treatment with 40.7 µg/ml proanthocyanidins, the expression of Beclin1 increased significantly compared with that in control cells, **p<0.01. However, when the proanthocyanidins were added after treatment with 3-MA, Beclin1 expression was significantly reduced compared with that in cells treated with proanthocyanidins alone, ΔΔp<0.01. (A) Data are expressed as the mean ± standard deviation (n=3). After treatment with proanthocyanidins, the level of Bcl2 decreased significantly compared with that in control cells, **p<0.01, whereas simultaneous addition of 3-MA significantly decreased Bcl2 expression compared with that in cells treated with proanthocyanidins alone, ΔΔp<0.01. (B) Data are expressed as the mean ± standard deviation (n=3).
