Transverse aortic constriction (TAC) or sham surgery was performed in 7-wk-old male rats with continuous administration of either nedocromil (Ne) or nafamostat mesilate (NM) initiated 3 days prior to surgery. Group differences in the ratio of left ventricular weight (LVW) to tibia length (TL) and interstitial collagen volume fraction 5 wks after surgery are presented in panels A and B, respectively. Representative microscopic images of myocardium stained with collagen-specific picrosirius red are depicted for the 4 groups in panel C (X100 magnification).
