Copy number variation and mRNA level in TCGA. The mRNA level does not necessarily correlate with DNA copy number. As an example, mRNA levels of several commonly amplified (EGFR, CCND1, FGF19) (A–C) and deleted (CDKN2A) (D) genes show poor correlation with copy number in the TCGA dataset. Data generated from cBioPortal [7,8]. Of note, the copy number caller on cBioPortal has upper and lower limits.
