Anthropometric and metabolic characteristics in the lean group of animals (n = 8, grey columns and line) and in the obese group of animals (n = 10, open columns and a black line). The animals were weighted before slaughter (a), and after slaughter the weight of the retroperitoneal fat (b), omental fat (c), and mesenteric fat (d) was measured. Triglycerides (TG), high-density lipoprotein (HDL-C), and low-density lipoprotein (LDL-C) were measured from plasma collected after an overnight fast (e). Oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) was performed only on males (7 in each group) after an overnight fast, and blood glucose was measured every 30 min for 3 hours (f). Data are mean ± SD. p < 0.05 compared to lean. p < 0.05 compared to baseline.
