The overall transmembrane H+ flux rates (J H+) were calculated from initial rates of pHi recovery and the intrinsic buffer capacity (βi) values (see Methods). A, T84 cells were exposed to culture medium without (–, Control) or with (+) 0.25 μmol/L heat-stable (STa) enterotoxin, 25 μmol/L HOE-694, or both (see Methods).
