The Cancer Genome Atlas defined the genetic alterations in high-grade serous ovarian carcinoma. Animal models can be divided into two broad classes: PDX and GEM models. PDX models involve transplantation of a human tumor into an immunocompromised animal (nude or NSG mice). GEM models incorporate the relevant human genetic aberrations into an intact animal engineered to express the relevant alterations.
