Modafinil increased the frequency and amplitude of spontaneous postsynaptic currents (sPSCs) in CA1 pyramidal neurons in hippocampal slices. (A) Sample traces represent sPSCs recorded in a CA1 pyramidal neuron during 1mM modafinil treatment. (B) Modafinil at 1mM or 2mM concentration increased the frequency of sPSCs (n=9, P<0.01). (C) Cumulative amplitude distribution of sPSCs shows that 1mM modafinil increased the amplitude of sPSCs (n=9, Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, P<0.01). Membrane holding potential, –80 mV. **P<0.01 compared with the control group.
