The relative position of neuron numbers per mm2 of cortical surface area are represented across the rostral to caudal and medial to lateral axis of the cat cortex. Neuron numbers are highest in the caudo-medial region (i.e., primary visual cortex) and lowest in rostral regions (i.e., motor cortex).
