Due to jet and X-ray beam instabilities the hit rate is very small, if not non-existent. (b) More realistic scenario: Jet diameter is larger. The coherent XFEL beam interacts with an ensemble. (c) Geometry already in reach: X-ray beam is focused to 10 nm to increase the photon area density. Jet is large to allow for instabilities. With a PYP concentration of 40 mg/ml, the number of molecules in the intersecting volume V would be ∼40.
