The transitions between behavioral states in Kcna1-null mice differ from wild-type controls. Transitions between behavioral states were grouped into six categories. Kcna1-null mice have significantly more transitions between wake and nonrapid eye movement (NREM) sleep, but have fewer transitions to or from rapid eye movement (REM) sleep. Almorexant treatment does not affect the number of transitions between any behavioral states in Kcna1-null mice. Almorexant treatment does increase the number of transitions between REM sleep and NREM sleep in wild-type controls.
