Scanning electron micrographs of the membrane surface, after subjecting the shells to flow through show that the core-shells retained on the surface, whereas the shells have crossed through the 0.8-micrometer pores. The insets show the EM (shells) that have passed through the pores and maintained their geometry. Scale bar is 5 μm. (c) Percentage of the particles able to traverse through the pores. No RM (core-shells) passed through. The experiments were carried out in triplicate and >30,000 events were analyzed in each experiment (*p≤0.0027; **p≤0002).
