Lovastatin induces apoptosis in breast cancer cells. (A) MDA-MB-231 cells seeded in 35-mm dishes were treated with lovastatin (LV, 30 μM) or vehicle and cultured under normoxia or hypoxia for 48 h. The cells were harvested, washed twice with PBS, and resuspended in 1X binding buffer. FITC-labeled Annexin V and propidium iodide were added and incubated for 15 min at room temperature in the dark. Fluorescence was detected using the BD FACSCanto II Flow Cytometer. (B) A bar graph summarizes the percentage distribution of cells in each apoptosis-related portion from one representative experiment.
